“Things grow Stronger when you integrate. ” ~ Daniel Wilson
Trying Too Hard
This morning, my neighbour came over to do a reiki session for me, since she had just trained in it and wanted to practice! She had felt her experiences so far to be mind-blowing, but she was nervous to do one with me because she’d not been doing it long. Just about 10 minutes in, she had to stop and lie down herself because she felt too hot, nauseous, and lightheaded.
She’d been trying too hard to focus on ‘doing it right’ and she also had no tools in her toolkit yet of processing what was going on physically – as she was releasing some of her own energy too which resulted in a healing crisis.
Doing The Deeper Work
When we are doing the deeper work of getting in touch with our shadow (more on that in a blog to follow!), with what’s held in our subconscious … we’d want to do this for various reasons. We may want to find out where unexplained emotions are coming from, or how we can break through unhealthy patterns to create positive change in our lives in certain areas, or to connect mind-body-spirit for our personal & spiritual development.
We may have decided we want to get into meditation or other such practices, to help us show up more authentically in work & life; but with all things, it takes practice and if you are not a regular or a beginner at meditation/energy work, then deep rooted fears and other emotions that can come up with this work can be quite confronting. It can actually bring on more fatigue, aches and pains, nagging headaches, even a rise of body temperature.
Support Yourself to Heal
There is a part of energy and subconscious work that is discussed very little, and that is processing and integration. If you’re not aware that something like a healing crisis may occur, some of the ‘symptoms’ may be a bit distressing.
And also, once we have gone into our subconscious or energy field and have released and transmuted a blockage, that space is a void, and needs to be filled with unconditional love – a shift has occurred, and it is like a new state of being. Your nervous system needs to rearrange itself for this.
Energetic Treatment Plan
It is SO important to allow for processing and integration and it is always necessary after energy work. We just don’t make time for it – including me! Rest, relaxation, self-care … will be required and sometimes we may not notice integration at all. But it can be rather heavy, creating noticeable emotional and physical symptoms. It’s all part of ‘the work’ but isn’t often discussed as a part of your energetic treatment plan.
Release & Receive
After a reiki session for example where a release took place, you may have a period of feeling really light, a weight lifted off your shoulders, feeling soft, radiating, and energised. Processing and integration can last anywhere from 3-10 days, depending on the depth of what is released and transformed.
Aftercare
If you feel you have been trying too hard lately and are having physical symptoms after energy work, help yourself by drinking plenty water, refraining from alcohol, and wherever possible have a clear schedule after the ‘session’. Take a warm Epsom salt bath or shower and allow yourself to rest. Follow your intuition & listen to your body to ensure your needs are met.
Your work may lead you to start making other connections to things that you hadn’t initially related to the block or issue you transformed. Check for yourself whether you feel you have somewhere to get additional support. I.e., continued coaching with a therapist, or a group support system. Having a place to talk about your experiences is great – journaling will also be a wonderful way to help you release what has come up. Choose to look after your emotional & physical health whilst you are experiencing continued transformation. Above all, be kind to yourself. Anything you’re going through will not last forever and is happening to help you bring your transformation full circle.
